Ian Moir graduated from Glasgow University in 1991 and has specialised in court work ever since. He has focused principally on criminal defence work, representing clients in courts throughout the country and even submitting appeals to the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. He also has a keen interest in family matters, Fatal Accident Inquiries and representing people facing problems under the Proceeds of Crime legislation.

Ian and Paul work closely together heading up the criminal and proceeds of crime departments. They will both discuss your case and work together to secure the best outcome for you.

Ian is also convenor of the Law Society of Scotland's criminal Legal Aid Negotiation Team, dealing with the Scottish Legal Aid Board and the Scottish Government on all issues regarding legal aid.

Paul Sweeney

Paul joined Moir and Sweeney in December 2013 at associate level in recognition of his experience and ability as a criminal defence solicitor. Having trained at one of the busiest criminal defence practices in the West of Scotland, Paul thereafter broadened his skill set working with a busy firm who also dealt with proceeds of crime cases, family matters and childrens hearings.

Douglas McAllister

Meet the team - Douglas McAllister

Douglas McAllister joins Moir and Sweeney as a consultant. Douglas graduated from Glasgow University in 1995, and since then has worked with a busy Glasgow based practice, specialising in criminal defence work.

Douglas has over 20 years experience of defending clients in courts, at all levels, throughout the country, and has gained a reputation for his skills in conducting criminal trials.

Douglas has a keen interest in local government and holds elected office at West Dunbartonshire Council. A Councillor for over 15 years, Douglas was also Provost of West Dunbartonshire Council from 2012-2017. Douglas has vast experience in regulatory matters gained from chairing the Licensing and Planning Committees at Council.

Lyndsey Barber

Lyndsey Barber joined us in February 2020 after several years of being self-employed covering cases all over Scotland dealing with children's hearings, jury trials, summary trials and police interviews. Prior to becoming a Scottish solicitor, Lyndsey worked for a Non-Governmental Organisation in Geneva as well as training in a boutique Swiss law firm specialising in commcercial law.

Lyndsey has significant experience in children's matters from first panels up to preparing and instructing counsel in Court of Session cases. She specialisies in all areas of children's lw and regularly appears at hearings all over Scotland. She is a positive and compassionate lawyer who seeks to make clients feel at ease at every stage of their case.

As well as heading up the Family Law department Lyndsey also regularly appears in the criminal courts where she enjoys an excellent reputation.
